GENERAL SERVICES OFFICE INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT NUMBER: 2026-04 (Intern)

OPEN TO: All non-U.S. citizen university students residing in Vietnam

POSITION: General Services Office (GSO) Student Intern (2 positions)

OPENING DATE: June 23, 2026

CLOSING DATE: July 07, 2026

WORK HOURS: Part-time (10 to 20 hours, with no more than six consecutive hours without a break)

INTERNSHIP DURATION: Six (6) to twelve (12) months

The Embassy of the United States of America in Hanoi seeks 2 part-time, unpaid university student interns for the General Services Office (GSO). BASIC FUNCTIONS OF POSITION The GSO Student Internship benefits both the U.S. Embassy and students by providing a valuable educational and job-training experience to students while assisting the U.S. Embassy in accomplishing important mission goals. The U.S. Embassy Hanoi's General Services Office (GSO) is seeking motivated undergraduate and graduate students for internship opportunities within our Housing and Procurement teams. These internships provide a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a professional international environment while supporting the operations of one of the largest diplomatic missions in Vietnam. Interns will work alongside American and Vietnamese professionals, develop practical business skills, and gain insight into how U.S. diplomatic missions support foreign policy objectives around the world.

Housing Intern The Housing Section manages residential properties for U.S. diplomats and their families assigned to the Embassy. As a Housing Intern, you will assist with:

  • Conducting market research on residential properties, apartments, and housing trends throughout Hanoi.

  • Visiting properties and helping evaluate housing options for Embassy personnel.

  • Assisting with lease administration and supporting discussions with landlords and property management companies.

  • Working directly with U.S. diplomats and Embassy staff to understand their housing needs and help identify practical solutions.

  • Supporting special projects and process improvement initiatives. This internship offers valuable experience in real estate, market analysis, customer service, leasing administration, and problem solving.

Procurement Intern The Procurement Section supports Embassy operations by purchasing goods and services needed to carry out the mission. As a Procurement Intern, you will assist with:

  • Conducting market research and identifying potential vendors and suppliers.

  • Supporting procurement actions for a wide variety of goods and services.

  • Assisting with the administration of contracts and purchase orders.

  • Reviewing vendor information, quotations, and supporting documentation.

  • Helping colleagues who manage high-value contracts and complex procurement activities.

  • Working with Embassy customers to identify requirements and develop practical solutions to operational challenges.

  • Supporting process improvement and data analysis projects. This internship provides valuable experience in business operations, contracting, supply chain management, project coordination, and financial administration.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIRED Applicants must address each required qualification listed below with specific information supporting each item. Failure to do so may result in a determination that the applicant is not qualified.

  • Must be at least 18 years of age at the time of participation in the program.

  • Students who are either Vietnamese citizens or Vietnamese permanent legal residents are eligible for the intern program. For permanent legal residents, a valid legal residency permit is required for consideration.

  • Must be currently enrolled as a college/university student in Vietnam through the entire duration of the internship.

  • Students must be in good academic standing at their current educational institution and provide a certified transcript and must provide written permission from the educational institution in which the student is enrolled.

  • If selected, the student must be able to hold the medical and security certification from the Embassy.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIREMENTS Applicants must be/have:

  • Strong computer skills and the ability to quickly learn and adapt to new software applications, information systems, and business processes. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, PowerPoint, and Word, is required.

  • Interest in real estate or housing market and willing to travel off-site (within Hanoi) for housing make-ready activities.

  • Interest in using modern digital tools, data analysis, AI applications, and business intelligence platforms to solve problems, improve efficiency, and support informed decision-making.

  • Ability to conduct internet searches in English for housing opportunities and to write professional correspondences and emails.

  • Good interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with foreign staff, vendors, landlords, and other external contacts.

  • Fluent in Speaking/Reading/Writing English. (This will be assessed during interview.)

PLEASE NOTE: INTERNS ARE NOT CONSIDERED U.S. EMBASSY EMPLOYEES

  • The intern will not be considered as a federal employee.

  • There will be NO employment benefits associated with this position: annual leave accrual, sick leave, etc.

  • There will be NO compensation or payment.

  • Interns can’t apply for U.S. government exchange programs during their internship. They may apply after their internship concludes, following a one year waiting period.

REQUIRED DOCUMENTS To be considered for the FNSIP, each applicant must submit the following:

  • Statement of interest which should include the student's objectives and motivation in seeking an internship and how their academic courses and other experiences relate (Attached).

  • Gratuitous Service Agreement (Attached).

  • Official transcripts illustrating good academic standing.

  • Written permission from the educational institution. (This can be submitted after being offered.)

  • A copy of ID card and student card.

  • Any additional documents (e.g., essays, certificates, awards, copies of degrees earned, etc.) that address the qualification requirements of the positions as listed above.
