Mekong Capital – Portfolio Insights Internship
02 positions | Hanoi | 3–6 months | Unpaid internship
About Mekong Capital
Mekong Capital is a Vietnam-focused private equity firm investing in consumerdriven businesses across retail, healthcare, education, F&B, financial services,
and agriculture. The Portfolio Insights team turns market and portfolio data into
insights that inform investment assessments and value-creation initiatives across
our funds – including our newest strategies in regenerative agriculture.
Position Summary
We are looking for one to two analytical, hands-on interns to support the Portfolio
Insights team across three main workstreams: competitive benchmarking and
sector research, live deal support, and portfolio monitoring dashboards. You will
work on real deliverables that feed directly into materials used by our deal
teams, under the day-to-day guidance of the senior team members.
What You Will Do
1. Benchmarking & Sector Research (≈60% of your time)
– Build and maintain sector databases: competitor profiles, market data, and
unit-economics benchmarks across consumer sectors.
– Support market mapping: company long-lists, screening profiles, and onepage summaries for sectors we are actively researching.
– Conduct desk research supporting valuation and buyer-landscape analysis.
– Conduct structured store visits and mystery shopping programs following the
team’s framework to document real customer experiences. Synthesize the
findings into a useful format for Deal team usage.
2. Live Deal Exposure (≈20%)
– Use the research above to help draft sections of investment memos and cobuild financial models during early-stage deal work.
– Support ad-hoc analysis and information requests from Deal teams.
3. Data & Dashboards (≈20%)
– Perform data collection, entry, and cleaning with high accuracy; maintain
recurring databases.
– Update Power BI dashboards and coordinate with data owners to keep them
accurate and current.
What You Will Gain
– Direct mentorship and structured feedback from the Portfolio Insights team.
– First-hand exposure to how a private equity firm monitors portfolio
companies and assesses new investments
– Practical training in benchmarking methodology, structured field research,
and performance monitoring.
– Internship reference letter upon successful completion; high performers will
be considered for extension and future openings.
Who We Are Looking For
– Second-to-final-year students or recent graduates in Business, Finance,
Economics, Data/Information Management, or related fields; other majors are
welcome with strong analytical aptitude.
– Solid Microsoft Excel skills; Power BI experience is a plus (or a demonstrated
ability to learn it quickly).
– Strong attention to detail, well organized, and reliable with deadlines.
– Genuine curiosity about consumer businesses and comfort with structured
fieldwork (store visits within the city) as a regular part of the role.
– Good written English (our working language for reports) and fluent
Vietnamese.
– High integrity and strict care in handling confidential information.
– Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
Logistics
– Openings: 02 (assignments will be weighted to each intern’s strengths across
the three workstreams).
– Duration: 3 months, extendable to 6 months based on performance and
project needs. Preference for candidates who can commit through March
2027.
– Weekly commitment: A minimum of 20 hours of work per week is required.
– Expected start: September 2026.
– Location: Hanoi office, open for remote work. Mystery shopping programs are
expected to be conducted in Hanoi.
– Compensation: Unpaid. Reimbursement will be made for mystery shopping if
necessary.
How to Apply
Send your CV in English, together with 3–5 sentences on why this role interests
you, to [email protected] with the subject line “[PI Intern] Your
Full Name”. If you have a sample of analysis or research you are proud of (course
project, thesis excerpt, personal analysis), feel free to attach it – optional but a
strong plus.
Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis. We are an equal opportunity
employer and encourage applications from diverse candidates. Only shortlisted
applicants will be contacted
